| It all started when I fell in love with a carnie that came to town. Before I knew it, I had left to go to Columbia, SC to work with him but then he had to go do a show in Puerto Rico and I had to go to school in Miami. We stayed in touch, 2 years later we reconnected at the Stampede. |

The travel and zest for life are still with me as I have ventured to the Arctic and the rain forests of Central America. The adventure does stay in your blood. Many friends have passed away and one day the show will go on again. |

| One of the most memorable summers I can think of.I was cycling across Canada and needed some funds so I stopped at the show in Winnipeg, to inquire about working a few days; well it turned out to be a 3 city tour and I found it to be a blast if you don't mind the hard work involved.I met lots of great people and got to see all the sights and sounds, like I said it was awesome and I'm still not done yet as I plan on hopefully doing the Canadian tour in 2005. See ya soon. |

| My years on the road were some of the best. I met some great people, worked for some great people (you know who you are). Did everything from taking tickets on the Double Loop at the Florida State Fair to flipping mini donuts in Springfield and Columbia. I learned how to make candy floss (thanks Corinna) and candy apples. I still keep in touch with many friends here in Winnipeg and elsewhere (Bobby, Cynthia, Kate, Doug & Corrina, Yankee & Roger, Slice, Shawna, Tammy from GR, Tim & Cory Chief, Sandy, Mel Robson when I get to see her and others I can't think of right now. I would love to hear from anyone and I would especially like to know if anyone has seen or heard from Lillian Newton. |

Carnie - Birthday game and other midway games |
| I worked mostly midway games and helped with set-up and tear down of the concessions. It was around 1969/70 until 1973/74. I was a teenager and it was one of the greatest things I ever did. My daughter who is now grown always teases me and tells her friends that I was a 'carnie" when I was younger. Don't have any pics to send you but I have lots of stories. |

| Well were to start.....I was 13 and needed a summer job. My sister Cheryl had been travelling with Conklin for a few years before she got my first job working for Calvin in the fruit shakes stand. I am sure their is a few people remember those shorts we wore...... I was with them untill i was 15(2 summers). I remember i left because Calvin moved us girls from his motor home in to a truck he renovated...i didnt wait to see what it looked like, i just was not going to live in a truck! I went to work for Mitch as the original coke cup girl...I stayed there until i was 19...what a blast let me tell ya...PARTY!!! Florida soon became home! I now know if i hadn't worked for Mitch i would have never new what HARD work was... Bottom line it was hard at times, but the good times over road the bad ones...Thanks Mitch for every thing!!! My mouth got the best of me, so i soon left the Mitchel Family and moved on to Super dogs....My sister was
in Florida working for Frank and Jodie. Things didnt work out the way Cheryl was promised they would, so together we went to work for Terry and Rusty. What a wonderful experience, what a family to work for, the very best ever.....Those guys walked me through some tough lessons in life, i know they didnt always agree in fact i know they didnt, but they always stood behind me. I do love them and will always hold them close, thank you for all of it and every thing.....I have met some amazing people out there, i believe my experience travelling has made me who i am!!! To all that remembers me, it was a honor to met you and a blast to party with you..... Funny how things change eh? I have always believed life is what you make it, so make it good and have very little regrets. I can still close my eyes time to time and hear the laughter and music coming from the rides and smell those home made corn dogs....... |

Guest Relations in Canada/ USA and Ice Cream Scooper in Dade |
| I started off working for Conklin Shows by applying for a ticket seller job in Toronto, I was 18.. I was offered a position in the Guest Relations Booth with John Gallant and fell in love with the carnival from there... learned how to live life.... how to love... and what it felt like to be part of a "family". I guess I had to grow up at one point and went on to University eventually, and I am now a Registered Nurse. I keep the lessons learned during my time with Conkin Shows more dear than any lesson learned in a class. I kept a scrap book of my last year on the road with pictures of lots of people and places... and I get to re-live it all when ever my kids bring out and ask me about it. :) Greeeeeeat time! |

southern comfort unit |
| hey, y'all- it all began in seaside heights new jersey on funtown pier where i met my x husband michael jack park aka hippie who was working for danny hall at the time running the brakes on a jet model coaster- at the end of summer we hit the road and hooked up with Dixie (RIP) and did a couple few spots in ontario and then a couple few in the states- we parted ways with Dixie in the carolinas somewhere and hit the road again hitch-hiking south to jacksonville then west on i-10 to phoenix to join conklin shows where hippie got hired to run his one and only true love, doh!, the enterprise- i worked in the haunted house with bobby (RIP) and we all stayed in this great hotel with a pool and partied our asses off which is something we all were in the habit of doing on that unit(aside from working ...) i think it would be fair to say that frank spoilt us rotten in a lot of ways- we were a pretty tight unit, all personality conflicts as
ide- hippie and i got married (why?!*#@) on the midway on the big wheel in little rock arkansas and everyone threw pot seeds instead of rice- but perhaps most of y'all would remember the wet t-shirt contest a whole lot better? how it came down to jamie and kim until kim took off her shirt? remember neil's skateboard getting run over by the fire truck? how it poured in san antonio and flooded the streets? the southern comfort unit was a group of such awsome people: ed dillon (RIP), brian james (RIP) and jamie, michael saint, igor, lurch, bobby, jon, celina, pete, russell, kid, ellen, carmie, chuck, neil, linda, ronnie, chuck g the office dude, that guy from hazlet nj, sam from the motordrome and the other riders, dano and his brother, dirt, burt, dewayne, bonnie, charlie and wade walker!, darnell, sherry, crazy vicky, john the shop guy and his woman from corpus cristi, the danny guy and his french girlfriend, frenchy john, and so many more- we winter quartered in west palm beach and in fort lauderdale were i worked along side michael saint and burnt my bum by accidently sitting in laquer thinner ... we traveled all over the US, Canada and Puerto Rico pretty much getting paid to have the time of our lives- thank-you, frank- and if anyone bumps into hippie from time to time, you can tell him that he is a grandfather- |

| I worked for my Uncle, Mike Neighbors, running the Bavarian Slide that sat along the back wall of Roberto Clemente Stadium in Puerto Rico in 1979. Working in PR was quite an experience, certainly one I will never forget. The people on the show were all great and hard working individuals. After PR, we went on to Venezuela and lost everything there after several riots and chaos. I had worked with other shows such as Harper Amusement, Johnnies United Shows, and a couple of independents before we joined up with Conklin Shows. I had grown up in a show family but decided to become a mark when I became an adult. I currently teach Business courses in two different universities. I often use my experiences from my show days to teach economic theory, business strategies, etc... |

Game Operator |
| First, I would like to thank Mr Thurston for giving me this opportunity to to share some the very fond memories that I have of the years that I spent working on a Conklin midway. I started working for Mr. Bob Cassata, (the owner of Bob's Space Racers) in 1973. I spent several years working for the Cassata family. They were some the best, as well as some of the hardest times of my life. I can remember how Bob and I would have a blow out one night.(Wayne is fired) And then how I would get woken up with a pail of ice water the next morning. Bob would be standing there (with that little smile on his face) yelling at me, get your ass back to work and get your f****ing joint open. Your going to miss lot call. He would throw my key ring back at me(oh how proud I was to carry even that small partial key ring) and off to work I would go. Just another day on the lot. I'm not sure that Bob knows how big of an impact that he had on my young l
ife. Mr. Bob Cassata (and several other lot bosses) taught me life lessons that I still very much use in my day to day life today. I will always be grateful to you Bob. You took the time to teach a lost young man, and to help him find his way in life. Thanks for not giving up on me Bob, I will never forget it. I remember with great fondness, Bob's wife Joyce and both of their terrific daughters, the youngest Karen,(The little wild one. Hehehe) and of course their first born Glenda. Glenda and her now husband, Fred (or as we all knew him, Punky) were already very much involved in the business by the time I first met them. I miss them all very much. I like to think of my early year's with the show, as the good old day's. The day's before there were so many rules and regulations from outside sources that had to be considered. When I started on the lot, the general rule of thought was let's work hard and make a lot of money, so that we could play just as hard when we were off du
ty. And play hard we did. Hehehe. They were great times. We worked and played pretty well around the clock. Yet, no one seemed to really run out of gas. Oh, there were some pretty hard lot calls to get open for some mornings. But, the show had to go on. And that's the way everyone seemed to look at things. We did what we had to do, to make sure the that all the joint's and rides were open. Everyday, no matter what. If someone needed help, then help he or she got help. Usually, by mid afternoon everyone was back on their game. We were all ready to get a tip built in front of the joint. It would be dark soon. It was time to have some fun with the marks while they threw their money at us. It was great. I loved being a mike man, and I think I was a pretty good one. Back in my day. (Hey my friend Richie from the Bronx N.Y. do you remember me?) It was a time when we were continually trying new things out on the midway. I remember the first night that I decided to turn off the brit
e white fluorescent lights in my joint.(At that time I was still running Bob's old, slow, horse race game) I tried using the black-lights only. I still remember Bob running over and frantically wanting to know what went wrong with the lights. He was so mad at me.(again hehe) But you know what? It was the still the the early 70's and black-lights were in. By the next night several of the joints on the midway were running black-lights only. (Even Bob in his brand new water game) It was a gimmick that had a short life span, but it still made us a few bucks for a little while. That was the great thing about the lot. It was something new every day. It's funny. When one starts to remember all the great times I had on the lot I feel like I could go on and on. I'll give you all a break though, and I wont. I finished up my last couple of years on the midway working for Don & Mary Larson who ran several six arrows & pea games for Conklin. I also consider Don as a mentor in my
life. As I said, there were several lot bosses that had a great influence in my life, and Don is another man that I have a great respect for. Don taught me many other life lessons. I remember that both Don and I shared a passion for gambling at the time.(Don is a great pro gambler) It used to get both of us in some trouble with Jimmy Conklin from time to time. LOL. I remember one year in Edmonton. Jimmy had banned us from leaving the lot to gamble, and of course we weren't allowed to gamble on the midway. We had to buy two way radios and set up the lawn chairs behind the scenery on the roof of a joint that was facing the horse racing track. Don would sit up there on the roof of that joint with his binoculars and radio me his bets over to the track. I would bet the same horses as Don, and we would both be making money. Hehehehe. That was until Jimmy caught us and fined both of us.(Don's was a lot more than mine) Hehehe. Good Times. I will always hold Don & Mary and their
two daughters near and dear to my heart. It would be impossible to mention all the wonderful people that I can remember from the numerous shows that I worked for Conklin midways. I would just like to say that I miss you all. If anyone out there remembers me and would like to get in touch. My e-mail address is zhawk101@shaw.ca. I would love to hear from any of the old gang. In closing, I would just like to say to all of the Alumni members of the Conklin family. WALK IN...WALK IN TO WIN..... I love and miss you all. Wayne Zloty |
